OBJECTIVES

  1.  Determine when it is appropriate to treat newly diagnosed patients with epilepsy.
  2.  Review recommendations regarding stopping medication in patients after a period of seizure freedom.
  3.  Discuss the focal epilepsy syndrome and their treatments.
  4.  Discuss the generalized epilepsy syndromes and their treatments.
  5.  Review alternative treatment options for drug resistant epilepsy: diet therapy, neuromodulation and surgery.
  6.  Discuss the current role of CBD oil in the treatment of epilepsy.
  7.  Describe the use of minimally invasive laser therapy in the treatment of specific cases of drug resistant epilepsy.
  8.  Analyze the current state of research on sudden unexplained death in epilepsy.
  9.  Interpret basic electroencephalograph studies, reviewing common normal variants and abnormal patterns.
  10.  Interpret advanced electroencephalograph studies, reviewing seizure patterns and determining onset.
  11.  Analyze videos of seizures to familiarize participants with the many varied ways seizures can present to help improve diagnostic skills.
  12.  Discuss complex epilepsy cases to review correct diagnostic work-ups and treatment plans.
