Camp is EXTRA important for children with epilepsy.

Our Camp Appeal

Dear Friends of Camp,

With your generous support, we can offer a FREE weekend camp for children with epilepsy and their families and put smiles on faces.

For most of the past 33 years, our camps have created unique opportunities for children with epilepsy and their families to connect with others and enjoy life beyond their epilepsy struggles. Our camp helps children feel accepted and appreciated in a fun and safe setting where they can make friends and know they belong. These experiences are extra important to children with epilepsy who often lose friends and feel excluded. Our camps also provide much needed respite for parents who often face the daunting task of caring for a child with seizures and perhaps other challenges. Our camp connects families so they can bond and enjoy activities and learn from each other and an epilepsy specialist.

You probably know firsthand the emotional, financial, and physical duress faced by families with epilepsy — so you can appreciate the importance of our FREE camp. But if you don’t have firsthand knowledge, then remember for a minute how important camp was for you or your child — and then imagine how much more important it is for a child with epilepsy who is often excluded. Imagine the financial burdens of chronic treatment and not having extra money for camp or family vacation.

Your donation will help make a FREE weekend camp available for children with epilepsy and their families. Help put smiles on faces, build confidence and create memories that will help them through tough times. Like the families depicted here at last year’s camp, help us bring the same joy to other children and families facing epilepsy this year.

Sincerely,

Susan Pietsch-Escueta, MPH
Executive Director

Stories from Camp

Camp was so special in so many ways allowing our family to get away from the daily grind and spend a weekend together. Planning family camp outs or even vacations can be extra difficult when organizing for the special needs child and typical siblings. Camp took all this away making it all so simple. The counselors at camp made it all so special and made our kids feel extra special… camp allowing for a very real need to connect with other families and exchanges of valuable information.” — The Lowenschuss Family

When I first learned that my son had epilepsy, I felt scared and alone. The family camp gave my son the opportunity to experience enriching activities with children who face similar challenges as he has. It also gave me an immensely supportive environment for parents…We felt very loved, supported, and empowered at the camp. I am so grateful such a place exists for families like mine.
— The G’Sell Family

The Painted Turtle Epilepsy family weekend was one of the most memorable times we have had as a family. We felt safe, accepted, and loved. I can’t believe how we were able to sit down with a family we’ve never met before and feel like we’ve known each other our whole lives. Share stories with families that “get it”. The volunteers treated our children with such love and respect, that we felt safe to watch our children experience things we would have never dreamed of; zip lining, horse-back riding, fishing, archery. Lots of smiles and laughter. Just what we needed.” — The Webb Family
