The Need in OC and Beyond

You are probably here because epilepsy affects you or someone you love or someone you know.

There is a great need. The epilepsies are more common than most people realize and you surely know someone with epilepsy — even if you don’t know it yet.

Men and women of all ages and races and ethnic groups are diagnosed with epilepsy.

The epilepsies affect about 30,000 families in the Orange County region, almost 3 million in the USA, and 65 million in the world.

While usually only one person in the family has epilepsy, it really affects the entire family.

Epilepsy can change lives, result in loss of friends and jobs, impede development, affect learning, cause accidents, impact livelihoods, cause injury and even result in early death.

Our Vision for OC

Through the generous support of Lead OC and their 2017 “Paint The Town Purple Gala” in Orange County, and the 2018 Care & Cure Gala, we look forward to increasing our activities in Orange County.

We focus on Care, Advocacy, Research and Education in our pursuit of our vision — End Epilepsy.

With the generosity of the OC community, we will fund the training of more epilepsy specialists, expand our helpline, expedite access to specialty care, continue advocacy, support research, and increasing awareness about epilepsy in Orange County.

Our Activities in OC

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles is proud of our past accomplishments that serve and impact the epilepsy community in Orange County.  Here are a few of our activities and activities we have funded and offered:

  1.  Over the past three years, we held an Epilepsy Family Day at The Great Park, an Epilepsy Workshop at CHOC, an Epilepsy Workshop at UC Irvine Health, a Women & Epilepsy Conference in Huntington Beach, and Brain Health seminar in Newport Beach.
  2.  We funded a pre-doctoral fellowship grant on epilepsy at UC Irvine.
  3.  We supported the training and launch of Dr. David Millett, a Care+Cure Fellow at USC-Rancho Medical Center, who later relocated to direct the epilepsy program at Hoag Hospital.
  4.  We held our Big Brain Exhibit as several schools and health fairs in Orange County, including during the annual soccer tournament organized by UC Irvine at The Great Park.
  5.  Conduct epilepsy trainings for school personnel and participate in health fairs upon request.
  6.  Lead statewide advocacy, including help getting SB161 signed into law — a law that benefits students with epilepsy throughout California who have a prescription for seizure rescue medication incase they have a seizure at school.
  7.  Organize speakers on epilepsy for the annual meeting of the California School Nurses Organization.
  8.  Conduct trainings and provide materials to OC school nurses through our partnership with the California School Nurses Organization.
  9.  Our Helpline reaches throughout most of Southern California.
  10.  Our Studio E: Art Therapy Program has been offered to children in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at CHOC. Currently, the Program is being offered to adults with epilepsy and being held in Santa Ana.
  11.  Our biennial Summit conference and our camp are offered to families throughout our region.

Creative ways to give. There are other ways to donate besides by check or credit card.

Other Ways to Give
1. Give in Memory and Honor of Another

It’s a great way to remember someone and make your gift extra special. Indicate if your gift is in memory or honor of someone so we can inform the correct person of your donation. You may also recognize a special event, such as a birthday or anniversary, by inviting friends to make a gift to Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles.

2. Donate Clothing+Small Household Items to Savers

Thanks to our national partnership with Savers thrift stores, you can support national and local services by simply donating gently used clothing and household items you no longer need to Savers. You will get a tax receipt. The national Epilepsy Foundation receives payment from Savers for your donations and shares a portion with us. To schedule a pickup, call 855-336-0212 or visit The nearest Savers store in Orange County is Savers Fountain Valley.

3. Double Gift with a Matching Gift Program

Does your company have a Matching Gift Program? If yes, please send us their matching gift form with your donation or at year-end, as directed by your company. We will complete and return form to your company. It’s a great way to double your gift! We love to recognize companies that are active in matching employee gifts, so make sure your company is recognized.

4. Multiply Gift with Employee Giving Program

Some companies have employee giving or payroll deduction programs for charity. Please encourage your company to add the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles to their list of charities and designate us in your own giving. We recognize companies with employee giving programs that support the fight to End Epilepsy, so help get your company added.

5. Sponsor Programs or Special Events

Our annual special events promote awareness and provide vital support for our mission. Support a special event by becoming a corporate sponsor, selling tickets, inviting friends, donating to a charity auction, and more. Sponsor a direct service/program.

6. Be an Athlete in Action.

We encourage all athletes of all levels to participate and raise funds for the fight. Please consider joining our OC Athletes to End Epilepsy team. Visit for more information.

7. Donate a Used Vehicle

Please consider donating your old car, boat or RV to support this cause. Proceeds benefit both the national and your local Epilepsy Foundation. Please call the Epilepsy Foundation at 1.877.332.2777 and indicate you want proceeds from your donated vehicle to help the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. Please also let us know so we can track it and keep you informed of programs that your donation helps to support.
