Thank you LEAD-OC for choosing End Epilepsy/Epilepsy Foundation of Greater LA (EFGLA) as your beneficiary of this year’s charity gala. We are proud to announce that the success of the event will ensure expansion of the EFGLA Care+Cure program into Orange County! This year’s Orange County black tie gala, “Paint the Town Purple” drew 400 guests and raised $300,000 to fund an epilepsy neurosurgery fellowship at UC Irvine and CHOC under the direction of Dr. Sumeet Vadera (UC Irvine Health) and Dr. Joffre Olaya (CHOC). Hence, the fellowship will provide training in specialized neurosurgery for children and adults with epilepsy.
“Paint the Town Purple” was the 2017 Gala of LEAD-OC which is a business philanthropy group in Orange County comprised of leaders in the community that raise awareness and much needed funds for various charities. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the charity and all members give of their time freely in order to better the surrounding community.
The expansion of the Care+Cure program will address the overwhelming need for more epilepsy specialists in Orange County and to improve access to and quality of specialty care for many of the 35,000 people currently living with epilepsy in OC. The evening raised vital funds and also awareness as the community came together to learn about the epilepsies — which are often under-recognized yet relatively common neurological disorders. Speakers at the Gala included Sarah and Sherri Faulkner (patient and mother from CHOC) and Megan Davis (patient at UCI Health).
As the Care+Cure continues to grow in Orange County, there will be more Epilepsy Fellowships and expansion to include other hospital training programs in Orange County area!
We can’t wait to watch the program grow as part of the expansion of the Care+Cure Institute and look forward to the 2nd ANNUAL OC Care+Cure!! Thank you all for your generosity!!
